Walter Mercado "The People's Astrologer"

For so many of us who grew up in Latin America or the diaspora, Walter was our introduction to astrology. His capes and general fabulousness made my little queer heart so happy, I felt like he was the most ethereal being ( the outfits were PURE FASHION)Because of my closeness to not just the subject of astrology but the divine feminine that was Walter, when he passed, many asked me why I didn’t make art. At the time I couldn’t quite process my grief in this way, it felt too heavy. This week, the documentary “Con Mucho Mucho Amor” about Walter’s life and legacy premiered on Netflix. After watching, I knew I was ready to make art. I infused this image with all of the sweetness and tenderness a Pisces deserves.
